I am a semi abstract landscape artist based in Stone, Staffordshire.
Whilst the landscape is my muse the painting process is equally important to me. Sketching and mark making plein air is exciting with an immediacy and energy fuelled by the elements and crucial to my finished pieces. Back in the studio larger works are completed combining the various moments captured. Initial gestures are made quickly without intention. As the layers
build further marks are made in response and pieces become more refined.
Experimentation leads to discoveries and using a variety of media, tools and techniques keeps the process exciting and constantly evolving.
Through human influence, our landscape is constantly changing. Mining, farming, forestry, urbanisation and other activities all leave their mark and whilst some may no longer be visible the land has been altered.
My more recent work considers these artificial interventions and the
marks they've left.
